When the American mountain cycling brand Rock Shox arrived with its Paris Roubaix Road SL fork into this classic European road competition, it was sensation.
In 1993 and 1994 Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle and Andrei Tchmil won this extremely hard road contest famous for rough terrain and cobblestones with Rock Shox forks and American mountain cycling brand symbolically defeated the traditional European bike hardware.
Picture here shows period advertisement of this fork which was later named as Ruby and was in serial production. But forks struggled to find a niche in the market and the idea of suspension forks for road bikes has been abandoned.
At least, this original advertisement is the nice period comment of the design and meeting of the classic European road cycling with hi-tech American technology developed primarily for mountain cycling. Old masters meet new era.
