Designed and built between 1947 and 1954 by Ignazio Gardella (1905 – 1999), Casa al Parco as Gio Ponti named this apartament building in Milan in his period article in Domus, is the finest example of the work of the famous Italian modernist.
Modernist, yet eclectic, Casa Tognella is the impressive modernist block situated very close to Parco Sempione and Triennale museum. The facade which we have documented some years ago during our visit of Salone del Mobile, features minimalist and carefully composed architectural details, such as an original railings, wooden shutters and others. The building is divided into two blocks, each of them with different facede and floor plan.
The form of the building illustrates Gardella`s 1950s style very much with his typical lightness, attention to details and reminiscences for historical styles.
