As a homage to legendary set decorator and interior designer Barbara D'Arcy, Rafael de Cárdenas of Architecture at Large has created psychadelic environment for Wallpaper Hand Made project.
Barbara D'Arcy (1928 - 2012) is famous for her wonderful set decorations at Bloomingdale department store in New York during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Including the famous designs of the era, Kartell furniture, Pierre Cardin and others, she created a world full of colors, shapes and psychadelic supergraphics motives. Sometimes extremely futuristic, sometimes very eclectic, her interiors helped change Americans’ taste in home furnishings of the period.
Commissioned by Wallpaper magazine, Rafael de Cárdenas has created D'Arcy Party, the installation including some silver Componibili modular units originally designed by Anna Castelli Ferrieri in 1969. The same pieces D'Arcy used in her Kartell merchandise displays as well.
