Our Light Sculptures exhibition at DOX presenting Czech table lamps from the period of 1950 - 1990 is open until 26th April.

Today we bring you some pictures from the preparing of the exhibition and its graphic design which is very strong part of the whole exhibition concept. All the lamps standing on the glass tables have captions with illustrations hanging on the walls beside. Captions are durable paper cards with simple iconography of lamps on them. Again we have to thank Atelier Činčera for its paper production mastery.

Stay tuned and see the whole installation next week!

We have found this perfectly composed mid-century bookcase in the Contemporary Showroom in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Designed by the Dutch modernist Willem Lutjens in 1953, this bookcase for Gouda Den Boer company, is the great example of the Dutch modernist design. Minimalist and strongly organic, this piece of furniture resembles building of the Maeght foundation by Josep Lluís Sert built more than ten years later. Small interior architecture!

This beautifully designed pot is an example of excellent timeless design.

Produced by Swedish company Nils Johan in the 1960s, the pot is the durable yet elegant kitchen accessories made with the care for all details such as brass base or rectangular handle. It is the example of the quality industrial Scandinavian design which was born in the heart of the company without design of any big famous name. Excellent!

Our fascination for lightning design continues with our next curated selection. After French trend of light objects we have discovered several minimalist thin table lamps designed by creatives around the world.

Take two wooden sticks, make a composition and add another material to complement it and you have a nice table lamp! Briefly, this could be the creative process behind this kind of lamps showing above. Contemporary trend of styling things rather than designing, brings to us many different lamps with very similar formal solutions. This international attitude is seen in the work of many young designers. Wooden minimalism leads the dance!

Jean-François Zevaco (1916–2003) is great French-Moroccan modernist. His paper models are so exciting as his real realizations.

Now in the collection of FRAC Centre, these three architectural models represent architect`s expressive sculptural style of the 1950s and 1960s when Casablanca and whole Morocco were exciting centre of the radical modernist ideas similar to organic architecture in South America. Zevaco was one of the leading architects of the era designing luxury villas as well as big public commissions. French 1950s design school is also very evident in his designs.

We are big fans of the Swiss watchmaker Swatch. We have looked into our archives and prepare this editorial featuring most of our catalogues and publications on Swatch. Each picture includes another type or theme of the Swatch catalogues or books. From different formats to sports theme and special published pieces, this selection documents the company history since 1990s up to date.
